Random thoughts on endings and beginnings
So did I really think I would be moving to Delhi by July 2007? Surely not! Let me clarify—the ever-changing and evolving “plan” was to move to India by end 2007 (especially to bring in my 40th birthday in India). Nothing profound really. For those of you who think I am still 25 (ahem!), yes, I turn 40 in Jan 2007, and you better be here to celebrate it with me!
I think the true magnitude of the move did not hit me (or John, for that matter, he later told me) until we were in that taxi heading to the airport to board the flight for Delhi. Passing the NYC cityscape and watching it fade away in the distance was surprisingly, really heart-wrenching. I have had some of the happiest years of my adult life in NYC.
The city is a living, breathing organism of unmatchably intense, pulsating 24x7 energy, variety, and vivacity. The friends I have made and shared such memorable times with are, for sure, friends for life and it is the only city I can truly call my “second home.” I actually wondered to myself, briefly, if we were making the right decision to move to India. A fleeting thought, but a thought nevertheless. Of course, leaving my sister, brother-in-law, and niece and nephew was the other really gut-wrenching part of the move, but such are the pros and cons of any transition—you win some and you lose some.
